SIM 2026: nuevas claves para la construcción industrializada
From October 13 to 16, Madrid hosted the main sessions of SIM 2026, Madrid Industrialization Week. The event brought together 250 professionals to explore how closer integration between design, manufacturing and on-site assembly is reshaping building delivery.
Organized by the Colegio Oficial de Aparejadores y Arquitectos Técnicos de Madrid and Digital Construction Hub, the event connected architects, engineers, manufacturers, contractors and public-sector representatives. The program combined talks, workshops and site visits, with an additional day dedicated to technical training and architectural culture.
Structured around four themes—Think, Manufacture, Research and Apply—the program addressed a central question for Real Estate development: how to bring manufacturing expertise into project decisions from the earliest stages.
Aitor Arteta, the studio’s Head of Business Development in Spain, attended SIM 2026, joining discussions on advances in industrialized construction and their implications for Real Estate development in the Spanish market.
Industrialized Construction Starts with Design
The projects presented highlighted the need for closer coordination between design, production and construction teams. Specifying components, resolving interfaces and aligning information early allows key decisions to be settled before work begins on site, supporting more precise planning.
Key topics included:
- Early collaboration between design teams, manufacturers and contractors.
- Digital tools for project coordination and component traceability.
- Procurement models and quality controls adapted to factory production.
- Flexibility and disassembly as considerations throughout a building’s life cycle.
Architecture plays an essential role in this process. Integrating manufacturing requirements means aligning technical decisions with spatial quality, intended uses and the specific needs of each project.

New Approaches to Real Estate Development
For developers and project teams, these examples raise practical questions about how developments are planned and their stages coordinated. Making effective use of industrialized systems requires manufacturing, transport, assembly and verification procedures to be considered from the outset.
SIM 2026 connected technological innovation with the way projects are organized and delivered. Its discussions outlined a shared agenda for architecture and Real Estate: better-coordinated processes that bring construction efficiency and design quality into alignment with the needs of the people who use the spaces.
