AMAR-CIAMAR 2025, organized by the Mexican Association for Retirement Assistance (AMAR), has established itself as the benchmark event for real estate development focused on the retirement assistance and wellness industry. Over two days, the Marquis Reforma Hotel in Mexico City will be the epicenter of debates, panels, and workshops addressing the challenges and opportunities of a rapidly expanding market: senior living and wellness for older adults.

The summit’s agenda will address fundamental topics for the future of the sector, including the development of intergenerational communities. This approach, which promotes coexistence and exchange between different generations within the same environment, is becoming a permanent trend in the design of residential and urban spaces. In addition, the evolution of housing and care for older adults will be analyzed, focusing on increasingly comprehensive wellness services that respond to the new expectations of seniors seeking active, healthy, and personalized living experiences. Another central theme will be the phenomenon known as nearetiring, which describes the migration of foreign retirees to Mexico. This movement, which has increased in recent years, has made the country the world’s leading retirement destination, creating significant opportunities and challenges for real estate development and the provision of specialized services.

Carlos Sánchez Pelayo, architect and the Studio’s Head of Business Development for Mexico, will join the panel titled Urbanism for All: Designing the Cities of the Future. This session, which will include interactive dynamics, will invite attendees to conceptualize inclusive and sustainable urban spaces, aligned with the new demands of the 50+ generation, which is redefining the concept of active aging and wellness.

He will be joined by Juan Pablo Payro, Juan Kaye, and Hugo Issak, with Fernando Luigi Rojas serving as moderator.

The summit will feature more than 50 international experts, developers, investors, and senior community operators, who will share experiences and success stories through panels, workshops, and networking fairs. The agenda is designed to foster the exchange of ideas and the creation of strategic alliances in a sector that, according to the figures, will continue to grow and transform the region’s real estate landscape.

Trends and figures of the senior living and wellness market in Mexico

The Mexican senior living and wellness market is undergoing a major transformation. Mexico has positioned itself as the world’s number one retirement destination, with more than 2 million foreign retirees living in the country, including Americans, Canadians, Europeans, Mexican-Americans, and Latin Americans. This segment generates an annual economic impact of 30 billion dollars, consolidating the country as a global leader in the retirement assistance industry.

The new generation of older adults, the 50+, demands personalized services and intergenerational communities, marking a trend that is here to stay. In addition, the nearetiring phenomenon—the reverse migration of retirees to Mexico—continues to grow, driving the development of innovative and sustainable real estate projects. Twenty percent of the population in the United States is Latino, and if Latinos in the U.S. were an independent economy, they would be the fifth largest in the world, highlighting the potential of this market for the real estate and wellness sector in Mexico.
