On October 10th and 11th, the +Colonia development—the first smart city under development in Latin America—hosted the second edition of Design Week Uruguay (DWU). Under the theme “Designing for the Future,” twelve international studios presented works, interventions, and immersive open-air installations, all set within the exceptional natural surroundings of +Colonia. This groundbreaking event was organized around four key pillars: Design & Architecture, Sustainability, Connectivity, and Technology, reflecting both the challenges and opportunities facing the field today and in the future.
Throughout the exhibition, the +Colonia grounds were transformed into a stage for sensory and architectural experiences, allowing attendees to explore new ways of living and building for the future.
DWU combined immersive experiences with networking spaces, panels, and talks led by high-impact speakers, creating an ideal environment for exchanging ideas and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. The event, led by Laura Pittaluga and Susana Sosa, established itself as an active, strategic, and immersive platform, bringing together professionals, institutions, and industry leaders to promote dialogue and innovation in design and architecture.

The studio participated as curator of the architecture exhibition, and architect Nicolás Newton, GP’s Head of Concept and Schematic Design, together with Nicolás Mieres from +Colonia, gave a presentation on the project, sharing the main guidelines of the urban masterplan and the conceptual approach to the smart city.
Design Week Uruguay has thus cemented its status as a leading regional event, connecting architecture, design, sustainability, and technology with a forward-looking vision. Colonia has positioned itself as a creative hub, driving the development of innovative and sustainable ideas for the cities of tomorrow.
