Buenos Aires Architecture Biennial Celebrates 40 Years
The Buenos Aires International Architecture Biennial will celebrate two major milestones in 2026: its 40th anniversary and its 20th edition. Under the theme HABITAR, local and international voices will come together in Buenos Aires to share projects and perspectives on architecture, urbanism, and contemporary ways of living.
Beginning on September 22 and continuing throughout October, the event will feature a program of exhibitions, conferences, installations, and activities across different venues in the city. This year’s edition will bring together around 100 architecture firms, 15 exhibitions, 50 conferences, 40 international guests, and representatives from more than 55 cities, positioning Buenos Aires as a meeting point for regional and international architectural debate.
The program will also return to two venues closely linked to the event’s history: the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes and Centro Cultural Recoleta, joined by the Biblioteca Nacional, Museo Nacional de Arte Decorativo, MARQ, and Casa Victoria Ocampo. From October 5 to 10, the Auditorio Amigos del Bellas Artes will host the international conference program.
One of the central themes of this edition will be HABITAR, the main exhibition at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, bringing together projects from different regions and contexts. Its curatorial approach explores a broad question around the ways we have inhabited, currently inhabit, and will inhabit the world, using architecture, urbanism, and landscape to examine the collective dimension of the experience of living.
GP at “Projects That Transform the City”
As part of the conference program, on Monday, October 5 at 4:30 p.m., the Auditorio Amigos del Bellas Artes (Av. Figueroa Alcorta 2270) will host the panel “Projects That Transform the City,” a conversation focused on developments whose scale, impact, or integration with their surroundings can drive transformations that extend beyond the boundaries of the project itself.
Over 35 minutes, the speakers will draw on their own experiences to explore the challenges and decisions involved in developing projects capable of reshaping a place and enabling new ways of inhabiting it. Scale, the relationship with context, and the intersection between a developer’s vision, architectural design, and urban impact will provide some of the starting points for the discussion.
The panel will be introduced by Ezequiel Barenboim, Development Manager at IRSA, and will feature Martín Gómez Platero, President and Executive Director of Gómez Platero Architecture & Urbanism; Damián Vinson, from MSGSSV Arquitectos; and Christian Wolff, from Gensler. Gervasio Ruiz de Gopegui, Project Development Manager at IRSA, will moderate the discussion.
The conversation will bring a fundamental dimension of large-scale developments to the forefront: their ability to build meaningful relationships with their surroundings, activate new urban dynamics, and contribute to transformation processes that extend well beyond the architecture of the building itself.
