"City making": GP at the 2023 edition of the SAU Congress

From November 13 to 17, 2023, a new edition of the National Congress of Architecture was held, organized by the Society of Architects of Uruguay (SAU).

Reading time: 2 minutes.

Under the theme "Making City," the event took place in the Blue Hall of the Montevideo City Hall. In its fourth edition, the congress brought together more than 20 international speakers, along with prominent Uruguayan professionals, to discuss four main thematic axes: territorial tension, new technologies, material resources, climate change, and digital transformation, among others.

In parallel, the Executive Committee of the Pan-American Federation of Associations of Architects (FPAA) gathered in Montevideo, thus complementing the activities of the congress. This event is proposed as a space for meeting and reflection on the disciplinary practice and the role of architects in a global context, marked by challenges of sustainability, social inclusion, and the impacts of scientific and technological advances.

Martín Gómez Platero, director and founder of the Studio, participated in the Dialogue Table "Diverse Architectures. One City," along with Arch. María Samaniego, Arch. Horacio Flora, and Arch. Rodolfo Schewdt, moderated by Arch. Conrado Pintos. "In our Studio, we conceive architecture and urbanism as 100% collective disciplines. This is because our main strength lies in a team composed of more than 200 professionals passionate about their work. Most of us, as architects, are passionate about the creation and development of cities, considering public space as the central element of each city and each project we undertake. We believe that every architectural project should contribute to the creation of a piece of a better city, adding high-quality public spaces," concluded Gómez Platero.

The Studio's participation was rounded off with a lecture by Arturo de los Santos, Pre-Project Manager, who gave a talk titled "The city is culture, made of time" within the framework of one of the event's Work Tables.
