Hypothesis of Causes and Palliative Solutions for Deformation in Reinforced Concrete Structures

Hypothesis of Causes and Palliative Solutions for Deformation in Reinforced Concrete Structures

Recently we have seen an increase in building defects mainly involving excessive deformation from bending in reinforced concrete structures. We address here this issue that concerns designers, builders and real estate developers. We decided to disseminate our hypotheses and conclusions as a contribution towards our professional practice in building projects, with the aim merely of sharing these ideas.

Document that gathers experiences, recommendations and our concern about the characteristics of reinforced concrete linked to the new calculation models. With this chapter, which reflects the know-how built day by day in GP, we took part in USINA, the first Festival of Architecture, Design and City of Uruguay.

We concluded that we must assign greater importance to the structural conception, which must not be a consequence but rather the protagonist of our creative process. The structure must emerge in harmony with the architectural formulation. The materials and the way they behave must be taken into account in order to ensure a good architectural result.

In practice, we must be systematic and rigorous in terms of procedures and supervision of projects. Thus we will be able to gauge and reach conclusions that will allow us to build on reliable results and arrive at certainties that will become accurate knowledge.
