This report explores the rise of mixed-use districts as a response to current urban challenges. We analyze their conceptual origins, main characteristics, and typologies, and assess their impact on resilience, quality of life, and the local economy. Through international and regional case studies, we highlight the benefits of integrating housing, work, commerce, and recreation in walkable environments. Additionally, we examine implementation challenges, the role of public space, governance, and provide guidelines for designing sustainable and contextually adapted districts.
