The second episode of GP Talks, the video podcast by Estudio Gómez Platero Arquitectura & Urbanismo, explored a topic of critical importance for the present and future of the field: "Architectural Design in the Age of Artificial Intelligence."

Hosted by journalist Malena Castaldi, the episode featured insightful contributions from Nicolás Jodal, co-founder and CEO of GeneXus; Ignacio Supparo, head of Development and Applied Technology at Estudio Gómez Platero; and Martín Gómez Platero, founder, director, and CEO of the studio.

The discussion centered on how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping architecture, from initial design concepts to construction processes. Nicolás Jodal emphasized the transformative potential of AI, stating: "Artificial intelligence acts as an assistant that solves specific problems and enables us to achieve things we never thought possible." He also reflected on the future, adding: "In five years, firms that embrace these tools will look back and marvel at how rudimentary their work was before AI."

Ignacio Supparo highlighted the practical applications of AI in architecture: "Today, we can leverage geospatial data to create thermal balances, façade studies, and recycled material analyses, optimizing every stage of the process." He also underscored the role of AI as a complementary tool: "Architecture is a blend of the social, the artistic, and the technical. Artificial intelligence should be a tool that allows us to focus more on critical aspects and deliver better outcomes."

Martín Gómez Platero stressed the importance of integrating AI across all studio processes, stating: "Artificial intelligence doesn’t replace architects; it enhances our creativity and responsiveness. Yet, human talent remains the cornerstone of our practice." He also highlighted the studio’s commitment to innovation: "At Estudio Gómez Platero, we’ve established a dedicated AI department because we recognize its importance in staying ahead in an increasingly competitive landscape."

The episode also addressed ethical and technical challenges, such as error management, copyright concerns, and the need for critical thinking. On this, Nicolás Jodal remarked: "The most essential skill in this new era is learning to doubt—not just the machines, but also our own decisions."

The conversation concluded with a shared vision of AI as a tool that enhances, rather than replaces, human creativity and operational capacity. The guests agreed that the future of architecture will depend on how effectively professionals integrate these technologies while keeping human expertise at the forefront.
